Maria Elena Holly was the first wife of rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly. She was born on December 24, 1932 in Santiago, Chile. Maria Elena was working as a receptionist at Peer-Southern Music Publishing Company in New York City when she met Buddy Holly in 1958. They fell in love and were married on August 15, 1958.
Unfortunately, their marriage was cut short when Buddy Holly tragically died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, along with fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson. Maria Elena was devastated by the loss of her husband, but she continued to work in the music industry and went on to marry again.
Maria Elena Holly has worked tirelessly to preserve the legacy of Buddy Holly and has been involved in numerous projects to honor his memory, including the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas. She has also been a vocal advocate for aviation safety, working to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.
Maria Elena Holly continues to be a beloved figure among Buddy Holly fans and remains a guardian of his musical and cultural legacy.
